LGBT TOURISM - Where to be more careful as travelers
Hello everyone,
Today I come to share information that I consider very important for travelers, which many of you may not be aware of and are, in my opinion, crucial for holidays without unnecessary worries.
Today I come to talk to you about LGBTQ tourism.
LGBT tourism is a tourism niche created by travelers who identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transvestite, transsexual and transgender.
Nowadays, we have seen positive advances and changes in relation to people who manifest sexual tendencies different from the so-called “conventional”, but not all countries evolve at the same pace and, as responsible travelers, we have to respect the cultures and customs of the destinations that we choose to travel to.
It is important to be aware that there are still many countries that, unfortunately, are not yet so open to these new choices and certain attitudes that the tourist may have, can have severe or even fatal consequences for tourists, if one is not aware of it.
Today, in the middle of the 21st century, there are about 71 countries that do not allow affective expressions of this nature and punish, often in a mortal way, these practices.
Below I leave a list of 10 countries that strongly condemn manifestations of LGBT behavior and in which these travelers should take this into account to avoid embarrassing situations. I'm sure some names will shock you.
I also leave the TOP 5 countries that are most receptive to this tourist niche.
TOP 10 Countries less receptive to LGBT behavior:
1. Nigeria: punishable by up to 14 years in prison;
2. Qatar: punishable by up to 3 years in jail, flogging or the death penalty;
3. Yemen: imprisonment, flogging and stoning to death (for married men);
4. Saudi Arabia: death penalty, 100 lashes. The use of clothing or behavior associated with the opposite sex is prohibited.
5. Tanzania: 30 years in prison or life imprisonment;
6. Iran: 100 lashes or the death penalty;
7. Sudan: 100 lashes, 5 years or life imprisonment, death penalty;
8. Barbados: anti-LGBT laws are applied, although not as drastic. However, talks are underway to change this 😊
9. Malaysia: 20 years in prison, lashes and fines;
10. Malawi: 14 years in prison for men and 5 for women, lashes. However, talks are underway to change this 😊
Other countries: Zambia, Saint Lucia, Uganda, Pakistan, Gaza Strip, Kenya, Maldives, Jamaica, Ethiopia and Egypt.
TOP 5 Countries most receptive to LGBT behavior:
1. Sweden: The most liberal of all and host of EuroPride, the LGBT festival;
2. Canada: Very positive attitude and condemns violence and discrimination;
3. Norway: In 1981, it was the first country to create institutions to guarantee equal rights for all people, regardless of their sexual orientation;
4. Portugal 😊: We are excellent receptives and have mechanisms on the ground to combat violent and discriminatory attitudes;
5. Belgium: Peaceful and relaxed attitude and a great atmosphere for these travelers, as well as the Netherlands.
This does not mean that travelers who belong to this group cannot travel to these countries, but it does mean that, if they decide to do so, they have to refrain from having certain behaviors in public mainly, or outside the hotel room.
It is very important to research this before traveling, if you are not sure that the country is liberal in this respect.
I hope this article can help in case of doubt.
Happy weekend to everyone.
